Ravichandran Ashwin - The Wizard

Basically, a street-smart cricketer hailing from Chennai, Ashwin threw himself into limelight during IPL 2010, when he finished his season with an excellent economy of 6.10 with even a good strike rate of 22.15. His journey especially at the start of his career was not as flamboyant as it looks. Even in IPL 2010, he had faced hardships of multiple kind, but that's how champions are built. He drove himself through all the obstacles and announced his arrival at the international level. Since his international debut, he has been a phenomenal performer for Team India, as well as for his respective IPL franchises. Especially when it comes to test matches, his numbers speak about his ability. Yes, he had a slightly off season with his first overseas tours, but then he turned the tides. It happens to everyone.

One important trait that Ashwin has is his cricketing brain. He is one of the few cricketing masterminds in the country. He is smart, when it comes to variations and even smarter on coaching aspects. Someone who is following his personal channel for a while, would agree with me on this. He is a perfect mentor material. The decision-making skills he has is another wonderful virtue, I have seen in him. Be it be following the batsman by bowling wide and getting him stumped, or the carrom balls, which skids through the batsman, or his natural offies, they all are lethal.

I just hope that, this COVID pandemic ends soon, so that he can fancy his chances to become India's leading wicket taker in tests. Well, that might be a long-term goal, but he has a bright chance of becoming the second fastest bowler to 400 test wickets, next only to legendary Muttiah Muralitharan. When he retires, I would want him to mentor Team India, I am pretty sure that his insights on the game would help the players in grooming their skills.

Happy Birthday RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN.

The Unwavering Calm: A Tribute to MS Dhoni

Every passionate cricket enthusiast cherishes moments when their idols perform under pressure, and I am no exception. While many cricketers have earned my admiration, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, or MSD, stands apart. His defining characteristic, widely acknowledged by peers and fans alike, is his remarkable calmness under pressure. MSD's ability to absorb tension in critical situations and consistently guide his team to victory is legendary. Though he has played countless significant innings throughout his career, one particular match remains etched in my memory, not just for the circumstances, but for the environment in which I witnessed it and his profound words afterward. It was a crucial evening during my university days, specifically the eve of our final semester exam. The atmosphere in the hostel was charged with the excitement of impending freedom. Adding to this, it was a do-or-die encounter for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Kings XI Punjab. My hostel wing-mates converged...

CHEEKY CHEEKU

It was the Australian summers of 2011-12. Team India had a tough time in the tour, being humiliated by the Aussies. Adding fuel to the misery, MSD had a suspension due to a slow over rate in the third Test match. Virender Sehwag took over the captaincy, and when asked to bat second, with a mighty score to negate, Indian batsmen fell cheaply yet again. When Virat came into bat, India had already lost the likes of Sehwag, Tendulkar, and Dravid with a huge deficit. But the way Kohli orchestrated his innings was a sheer masterclass. It all began with a fine flick towards the square leg, which truly marked his arrival to the International level. He was authoritative with his shots and progressed well while others were crumbling against the Australian bowling attack. The pulls were executed well, while the drives were elegant on the eye. To me, it will always be remembered as one of Kohli's best early innings, as he made a strong statement that verbals wouldn't work with him. Though ...

This day in history - Mitchell Johnson

This day in history - Feb15 It was the first test of the tour. The hosts Proteas were taking on a raw Australian visitors at Centurion. Proteas were the clear favourites, mainly due to the bowling prowess they possessed. As usual their bowlers started well, but gutsy centuries from Shaun Marsh and Steve Smith meant some business. An useful contribution from Mitchell Johnson with the bat made sure that Aussies inched closer to 400 mark in their first innings. But what followed was one of the fieriest spell of fast bowling, that world had seen.Banking on his confidence from a good batting performance, Mitchell Johnson made sure that he made life miserable for the hosts' batsmen.SA batsmen, other than Devilliers didn't have their answers prepared for the questions posed by the hostile spell of fast bowling from Johnson. He ended up picking 7 wickets in first innings, handing his team a very healthy lead of 197. Aussies batted well at a brisk pace to keep the lead tickling. They made sur...
