MSD’s Return: Is CSK’s Legacy Holding Them Back?

Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out. CSK’s top batter gone at a time when the batting unit already looks shaky.. And just like that, the captaincy is back with MS Dhoni.

Let’s be real — if Dhoni’s in your franchise squad, he’s automatically the leader. No debates there. But this wasn’t how it was supposed to go and this situation could have been easily avoided if MSD would have opted out...but that's a different discussion altogether. It’s not about disrespecting the legend. It’s about growth. CSK has been one of the most successful teams in IPL history, but their biggest flaw? Not preparing for life after MSD. It’s 2025 and CSK still don’t have alternate leadership options in the squad.  To me,that’s worrying ...

But maybe this is a turning point.

The talent pool is there — Vansh Bedi, Shaik Rasheed, Ramakrishna Ghosh, Anshul Kamboj — all rated highly in domestic circuits. This could be their shot. Sometimes chaos gives rise to opportunity, and maybe that’s what CSK needs right now.

Let’s not sugarcoat it — playoffs look unlikely. But if this season ends with CSK discovering 2-3 young gems, building a new Indian core, and actually planning ahead, it won’t be a waste.

Dhoni’s return might steady the ship for now, but if CSK wants to keep their legacy alive, they need to start building without him — not around him.

In a nutshell , CSK has got the cheat code in MSD — but it’s not gonna last forever

    Well said! CSK should really focus on the budding talents than just hyping it and focusing only on Dhoni!
    Every match though CSK is losing but one or the other newbie is hitting crazy and establishing their stands!

It was the Australian summers of 2011-12. Team India had a tough time in the tour, being humiliated by the Aussies. Adding fuel to the misery, MSD had a suspension due to a slow over rate in the third Test match. Virender Sehwag took over the captaincy, and when asked to bat second, with a mighty score to negate, Indian batsmen fell cheaply yet again. When Virat came into bat, India had already lost the likes of Sehwag, Tendulkar, and Dravid with a huge deficit. But the way Kohli orchestrated his innings was a sheer masterclass.
